Job summary

CapSpecialty is seeking college graduates for a year-long Underwriting Training program in Hartford, CT. The program begins in June 2027 and leads to underwriting roles, with hands-on training in Surety and exposure to specialty lines of insurance.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree and offers a structured evaluation at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. The position is hybrid, with 3 days in the Hartford office, though relocation to Atlanta, Middleton, or Walnut Creek may be required after training.

• Previous office experience helpful.

• Candidates will become immersed in the Surety principles they learn so that they have a basic understanding of how to evaluate a risk and can move into a production role upon completion of the Underwriting Training program.
• Candidates will apply underwriting analysis on actual accounts to support production underwriters.
• Candidates will perform other duties as needed.

CapSpecialty is seeking college graduates for a year-long Underwriting Training program to begin in June 2027. Candidates who successfully complete the program will become Underwriters. The training program will include hands on training within Surety as well as a general introduction to specialty lines of insurance and overall insurance operations. During the training, trainees will learn how to analyze financial statements, contracts, statutes and surety bond forms. Additional training will encompass negotiation skills, presentation skills and decision-making skills. Formal performance evaluations will occur at three, six, nine and 12 months. Upon successful completion of the Underwriting Training program, trainees must be willing to remain as a Hartford employee or relocate to a regional office in Atlanta, Middleton or Walnut Creek. The Underwriting Trainee program is designed to provide candidates with the knowledge and skills required to begin a successful underwriting career.

• Ability to work independently, problem solve and meet deadlines while also working on a team as a team player.
• Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.
• A degree in Accounting or finance is a plus.
• Previous office experience helpful.

Physical Demands:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• May be required to lift up to 15 lbs. at times.
• May require business travel up to 15%.
