Job summary

CNA offers an Underwriting Trainee Program in Chicago to provide hands-on experience in underwriting basics, sales, and marketing, with structured instruction and mentoring. Training combines on-the-job and virtual elements to build practical underwriting skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of underwriting.
• Strong sales aptitude.
• Effective analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to learn rapidly.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence, overcome obstacles, and develop positive business relationships.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Participate in CNA’s Underwriting Trainee Program, gaining hands-on experience and unique opportunities.
• Receive instruction in insurance basics, underwriting, professional, sales, and marketing skills.
• Undergo technical training within underwriting disciplines and gain broader industry knowledge.
• Engage in a combination of on-the-job and virtual training.
• Gain exposure to multiple lines of business and industry segments through a formal mentoring program.
• Complete instructor-led training, testing, self-study courses, web-based training, and practical application.
• Work collaboratively with underwriting, risk control, and claim consultants to meet evolving client insurance needs.
• Evaluate businesses by reviewing industry, business, and government data to select and price risks with profit potential.
• Maintain a steady flow of new and renewal business.
• Interact with senior leadership and critical enterprise-wide support functions.
• Work on a hybrid schedule from CNA’s offices in Chicago, IL.
