Job summary

Distinguished Programs is seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead a team of Underwriters on our Real Estate Umbrella program, driving underwriting integrity, profitability and a best-in-class customer experience.

This remote US-based role offers a base of 120,000–150,000 USD plus an annual bonus, with comprehensive health coverage, a 401(k) match, life and disability insurance, and generous PTO.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of commercial insurance underwriting experience.
• 3+ years with direct supervision and/or management of people.
• Advanced technical underwriting expertise with extensive insurance knowledge and practices.
• Data analytics to monitor profitability, rate achievement, and SLAs.

Responsibilities

• Manage, mentor and coach Underwriters in technical and professional skills.
• Supervise underwriting operations and guide a team of Underwriters.
• Monitor portfolio performance and execute pricing and growth models.
• Administer and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulations.
• Work with Program Managers to strengthen and grow designated programs.
• Partner with Sales Executives to ensure alignment and communication.
• Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external customers.
• Create, coordinate and participate in underwriting training.
• Foster continuous improvement and root-cause problem solving.
• Recommend changes to improve workflow, productivity, and profitability.
• Monitor SLAs and report to key stakeholders.
• Underwrite as needed; risk selection, pricing and coverage.
• Limited travel may be required.

The Underwriting Manager leads and motivates a team of Underwriters on our Real Estate Umbrella program, ensuring underwriting integrity, profitability, and an exceptional customer experience. Leveraging data and thoughtful analysis, the role requires advanced expertise to recommend and implement business improvements. The manager fosters teamwork and organizational success while embracing accountability, ownership, and the celebration of achievements.

Responsibilities

• Solve for root cause problems and provide a resolution path
• Recommend and implement changes to improve workflow, productivity, growth, profitability and quality
• Monitor, manage and report on Service Level Agreement to key stakeholders
• Participate and ensure quality control process
• Obtain and understand market intel and trends
• Underwrite as needed; risk selection, pricing and coverage assessment based on underwriting guidelines
• Limited travel may be required

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• 7+ years commercial insurance underwriting experience
• 3+ years with direct supervision and/or management of people
• Advanced technical underwriting expertise with a high level of insurance knowledge & underwriting practices
• Data analytics to monitor profitability of products, rate achievement, and SLA’s
• High energy, pro-active self-starter with a strong sense of urgency
• Ability to set and meet goals by obtaining buy-in from management, peers and associates
• Interpersonal skills necessary to achieve desired goals and interact effectively

LOCATION

• This is a remote role based anywhere in the United States.

Compensation And Perks

• $120,000 - $150,000 base salary plus yearly cash bonus. Salary commensurate with knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location.
