Builders Mutual is seeking an Underwriting Manager based in Raleigh, NC. This hybrid role blends remote work with two days in the office weekly, directing an Express Account Underwriting Team to ensure profitable growth and strong customer outcomes.

You will collaborate across teams, monitor portfolio performance, and coach a high-performing unit while maintaining underwriting discipline and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, Finance, Insurance, or related field with 5–7 years of commercial lines underwriting experience.
• Knowledge of commercial insurance coverage, pricing, risk selection, underwriting guidelines, and portfolio management.
• Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience with talent development.

Responsibilities

• Lead underwriting operations for an assigned business segment, portfolio, or team with delegated authority.
• Drive profitable growth through disciplined risk selection, pricing, retention, and portfolio management.
• Monitor performance, loss trends, and service quality; implement improvement plans.
• Recruit, coach, and retain a high-performing underwriting team.
• Maintain relationships with agencies, brokers, and distribution partners.
