Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Risk Management and Insurance, Animal Science, or Agricultural Business, Liberal Arts or related field.
  • Minimum of 9 years underwriting experience or related field, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Pursuit of professional designations such as AU, CPCU, CIC, INS, or ARM is preferred.
  • Typically manages 2+ reports and leads policy renewals and risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and compliance with state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee underwriting team operations and optimize workflows for productivity.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans aligning with business goals.
  • Evaluate quality and volume of underwriting and prepare detailed reports.
  • Cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive growth and ensure compliance.
  • Oversee renewals, risk assessments, and implementation of improvements; monitor service levels.

Develops and monitors management reports on service levels, activities, and customer experiences, and implements strategic improvements as necessary.Manages and updates underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations as needed.Performs other duties as assigned.Job RequirementsBachelor’s Degree in Business, Risk Management and Insurance, Animal Science, or Agricultural Business, Liberal Arts or a related field or equivalent experience.Generally, a minimum of 9 years of underwriting experience or a related field, including a minimum of 3 years of leadership experience.Continuing progress toward and/or the completion of a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Program in General Insurance (INS) or Associate of Risk Management (ARM), or a marketing designation.Typically manages 2 or more reports. Implements policies, procedures, and strategies under the direction of management.Allocates resources efficiently and sets realistic timelines.Participates in annual planning and goal-setting. Ensures that the team meets performance targets.Responsible for performance and coaching of staff and decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management.
