Job summary

Capital Insurance Group is seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager in Spokane, WA. This hybrid role leads the underwriting team across virtual and office environments, ensuring compliance, integrity, and high-quality service while mentoring staff.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Business/Finance/Risk Management/Insurance, CPCU preferred, and 10+ years in P&C underwriting with leadership experience. Competitive salary and benefits accompany the position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance or related discipline; CPCU preferred.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible property-casualty underwriting experience, including leadership & management.
• 5+ years leading diverse teams and developing underwriting leaders and technical talent.
• Knowledge of risk selection for high-value or complex exposures; familiarity with DOI regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead underwriting team in virtual and on-site settings; oversee compliance, underwriting integrity, service standards and production.
• Provide mentoring, technical assistance, and training to the underwriting team."
• Develop business strategy, create metrics, and determine products/services to support the organization.
• Review and underwrite the most complex risks and authorize reports for direct reports.

This is a hybrid position requiring you to work from our Spokane, WA office Monday through Wednesday.

Job Overview

This position represents the highest level of technical underwriting competency within the assigned practice group and is responsible for leading and directing the underwriting team(s) in a virtual and office working environment. Underwriting authority is delegated by the Practice Executive. The Underwriting Manager works closely with the Practice Executive and is responsible for compliance, underwriting integrity, service standards, and production. The position provides mentoring and technical assistance and training to the underwriting team and in the interpretation of underwriting policies and procedures. The Underwriting Manager may review and underwrite the most complex technical risks and grants underwriting authority to all direct reports. This position assists in the development of the business strategy, develops metrics, and determines what products and services best support the organization.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, or other related discipline with advanced degree or technical development highly desirable.
• CPCU designation and related experience preferred.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible Property-Casualty insurance underwriting experience, including significant underwriting leadership and management experience
• 5+ years demonstrated experience leading diverse teams and developing underwriting leaders and technical talent
• Knowledge and risk selection experience involving high value or complex exposures.
• Comprehensive knowledge of DOI regulations and pending legislative issues.
• Underwriting and marketing philosophy and procedure.
• Effectively negotiate with and influence others with ability to exchange ideas and information through oral and written presentation
• Effectively interact with others in order to accomplish work responsibilities and objectives
• Correlate risk factors to underwriting standards to determine acceptance of risk

Salary Range: $120,367.00 - $200,612.00

The salary range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary range for this role. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range above or below, depending on experience and location. We look at compensation for each individual and base our offer on your unique qualifications, experience, and expected contributions. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation in addition to base salary, such as benefits and bonus programs.
