Job summary

Ameritas is seeking an Underwriting Intern to assist the Group Business Development Underwriting team with projects and daily workflow. The intern will learn about group benefits and will work with the underwriting and sales support teams, gaining exposure to dental and vision products, underwriting techniques, and daily operations within the department.

The internship begins in May 2027 and follows a hybrid schedule, partly in-office and partly from home.

Qualifications

• Undergrad student majoring in Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Actuarial or Business.
• Commit to a 1-year internship; part-time during school year and full-time during summer.
• PT hours (15-20 hours/week) or FT hours (30-40 hours/week).
• Intermediate computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to adapt when faced with unexpected challenges.
• Sales-oriented thinking to present creative solutions.

Responsibilities

• Learn dental and vision rating and risk evaluation process.
• Evaluate new Request for Proposals (RFPs).
• Support in approving new cases along with issuance/installation process.
• Assist with reporting or renewal processes while adhering to underwriting risk principals.
• Perform tasks in support of assigned projects and work.
