Job summary

Burns & Wilcox offers a 12-week paid Underwriting Intern program in New Orleans to grow business acumen, communication, and leadership through hands-on experience. The internship runs 40 hours per week on-site across our specialty underwriting teams.

During the program you will engage in client meetings, policy renewals, and data updates in Excel, while learning from senior leaders and fellow interns across departments.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate student pursuing Risk Management and Insurance, Business, Finance or related field.
• Expected graduation December 2027 or May 2028.
• Previous internship experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participate in agent marketing calls and attend client meetings.
• Engage in insurance policy renewals.
• Update new business and renewals in Microsoft Excel.
• Determine which program or market best meets the needs of agency clients.
• Communicating loss notices and policy changes.
• Work alongside senior leaders on special projects.

Summary

Our 12-week summer internship program aims to develop one’s business acumen, communication, and leadership skills through hands-on, real-world experience. This is a paid internship that provides valuable opportunities for students to learn from and network with executive leadership and fellow interns in a range of departments.

This individual will be expected to work 40 hours per week, on-site in an office setting. The Underwriting Intern will be immersed in at least one of our specialty underwriting teams , comprised of commercial, personal or professional lines insurance.

Qualifications

• Enrolled as an undergraduate at an accredited university, actively pursuing a degree in Risk Management and Insurance (strongly preferred), Business, Finance, or another relevant field
• Expected graduation in December 202 7 or May 202 8
• Previous internship experience is preferred
• Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
