Job Title: Underwriting Audit Consulting Director

The Underwriting Audit Consulting Director is responsible for conducting underwriting audit work for National Accounts Property and identifying opportunities for operational or training improvement. This role involves analyzing written business relative to risk appetite, pricing, coverage, underwriting authority, and compliance with the objective of driving continuous improvement in both underwriting and audit alike. The director will collaborate with Underwriting Shared Services and Underwriting leadership to execute other audit-related projects and mentor less experienced auditors. This position requires in-depth technical knowledge of underwriting theories and practices across all Property related coverage and program structures (Ground Up, Shared & Layered, Wholesale/Surplus Lines, etc.), as well as a proven track record of success.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Conduct underwriting audits for assigned business units, analyzing quality in risk selection, pricing, coverage, and compliance for both new and renewal business.
  2. Identify opportunities for operational or training improvements in underwriting and audit processes.
  3. Collaborate with Underwriting Shared Services and leadership to execute audit projects, ensuring compliance with requirements and governance.
  4. Drive quality assurance throughout the underwriting audit lifecycle, working with Business Unit Leaders and Liaisons.
  5. Develop responses and action plans for audit findings in collaboration with Business Unit Liaisons.
  6. Evaluate underwriting guides and processes with Compliance and Global Product Teams to maintain effectiveness.
  7. Participate in reviewing and updating audit procedures and tools to ensure continued effectiveness.
  8. Work with colleagues on workflow improvements and operational efficiency initiatives.
  9. Mentor and train less experienced auditors, sharing technical underwriting and audit management expertise.
  10. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationship

Typically reports to an Audit Director or above.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Deep technical knowledge of underwriting theories and practices within insurance.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, across all levels.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of managing multiple projects.
  • High attention to detail and results-driven problem resolution.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Athenium/Team Think preferred.
Education & Experience
  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent; professional designations preferred.
  2. Minimum of ten years underwriting experience with a proven track record.
  3. Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) preferred.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The national base pay range is $97,000 to $189,000 annually, based on various factors including experience, skills, certifications, and location. CNA offers a comprehensive benefits package.
