Job summary

EMC Insurance is seeking a Large Accounts Underwriting Associate to support underwriting of complex commercial accounts, analyze risk, and provide exceptional service to agents and brokers. The role partners with underwriters and business partners to strengthen relationships and position EMC's Large Accounts portfolio for long-term success.

Join us, and let’s improve lives together. **This position is eligible to work from home anywhere in the United States** As a Large Accounts Underwriting Associate, you'll help drive profitable growth by supporting the underwriting of complex commercial accounts, analyzing risks, and delivering exceptional service to agents and brokers. Working closely with underwriters and business partners, you'll contribute to strategic account decisions, strengthen agency relationships, and help position EMC's Large Accounts portfolio for long-term success.

Essential Functions:
  • Lead renewal preparation for an assigned portfolio, supporting profitability, retention, and pricing objectives.
  • Evaluate account risk profiles and determine renewal eligibility according to underwriting guidelines.
  • Identify items outside authority and prepare analysis to support approval decisions.
  • Ensure submission quality by validating classifications, reviewing loss runs, and coordinating rating activities.
  • Receive, triage, and prepare new business submissions for underwriter evaluation.
  • Apply underwriting-directed pricing updates and assemble proposal materials for review.
  • Build strong relationships with agents and brokers to support retention and new business growth.
  • Serve as a primary contact for agent inquiries, resolving endorsement, renewal, and policy-related issues.
  • Review and approve endorsements, reinstatements, and cancellations within established authority.
  • Assess the impact of policy changes by analyzing coverage, claims history, and loss experience.
  • Partner with internal teams to deliver timely solutions for agents and insureds.
  • Provide operational and underwriting support while developing expertise in EMC's underwriting appetite, tools, and systems.
Education & Experience:
  • Associate degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • One year of insurance industry experience or related experience
  • Experience supporting large commercial accounts, including $500K+ premium accounts, loss-sensitive programs, and complex risk exposures, strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree may be considered in lieu of the insurance industry experience requirement

  • Good personal computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft products

  • Ability to work in a team setting as well as independently
  • Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if driving

The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following: $51,201 - $70,730 or $56,581 - $77,796

A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
