We currently have entry level opportunities for individuals seeking a career in the insurance industry as an Underwriting Assistant Trainee. All selected candidates will be hired on a temporary basis until they successfully complete the first 4-5 weeks of training which includes preparation for and the passing of The Institutes AINS 103: Exploring Commercial Insurance exam. The classroom portion of this live training program conducted remotely will last approximately four to five months.
The underwriting assistant trainee will support underwriters by performing a variety of tasks including the preparation and servicing of new and renewal accounts. Work performed is under the daily guidance, review, and authority of an assigned underwriter(s) and underwriting management staff.
Anticipated class start date is July 14, 2025
Job Responsibilities:
- Set up underwriting files and applications by obtaining required documents and updating appropriate systems.
- Review applications for accuracy and completeness.
- Provide timely and professional customer service to agents to facilitate the processing of business.
- Conduct research and run reports for initial risk analysis such as motor vehicle reports, loss history reports, credit checks, loss control, ISO reports, Risk Meter, etc.
- Track inspection requirements and recommendation status.
- Rate and issue new and renewal policies and endorsements.
- Prepare quotes, binders, and polices at the direction of the underwriter.
- Communicate with all levels of employees to include, but not limited to, producers and internal personnel to confirm or obtain data needed for policy issuance and servicing.
- Work with a team of other underwriting assistants and underwriters, providing support to others who need assistance.
- Participate in other administrative support functions - as necessary.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- High School Diploma required; some college or prior insurance experience preferred.
- Ability to learn through classroom participation and self-study.
- Pass The Institutes' AINS 103 exam by week 5 of the training program.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and time management skills required.
- Experience working on time restraints while maintaining accuracy.
- Extreme diligence and organization skills required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as mathematical aptitude.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Experience with AS/400 and/or ImageRight a plus.
The salary range for this role is $36,300 - $60,900. The listed annual salary range posted for this position is subject to change and may vary depending on performance, education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, demonstrated proficiency in the competencies required for the role and business needs. Base pay is just one component of GNY's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards include eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus based on performance.
