We currently offer entry-level opportunities for individuals seeking a career in the insurance industry as Underwriting Assistant Trainees. Selected candidates will be hired on a temporary basis during a 4-5 week training period, which includes preparation for and passing The Institutes AINS 103: Exploring Commercial Insurance exam. The live, remote training program lasts approximately four to five months.

The underwriting assistant trainee will support underwriters by performing tasks such as preparing and servicing new and renewal accounts. All work is performed under the guidance and review of an assigned underwriter and underwriting management staff.

Anticipated class start date: July 14, 2025

Job Responsibilities
  • Set up underwriting files and applications by obtaining required documents and updating systems.
  • Review applications for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide professional customer service to agents to facilitate business processing.
  • Conduct research and generate reports for initial risk analysis, including motor vehicle reports, loss history reports, credit checks, loss control, ISO reports, Risk Meter, etc.
  • Track inspection requirements and recommendation statuses.
  • Rate and issue new and renewal policies and endorsements.
  • Prepare quotes, binders, and policies under the direction of the underwriter.
  • Communicate with internal personnel and producers to confirm or obtain data needed for policy issuance and servicing.
  • Collaborate with a team of underwriting assistants and underwriters, providing support as needed.
  • Participate in other administrative functions as necessary.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma required; some college or prior insurance experience preferred.
  • Ability to learn through classroom participation and self-study.
  • Pass The Institutes’ AINS 103 exam by week 5 of training.
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under time constraints while maintaining accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and mathematical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with AS/400 and/or ImageRight is a plus.

The salary range for this role is $36,300 - $60,900. This range is subject to change based on performance, education, experience, skills, location, and business needs. Compensation includes base pay and potential eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus based on performance.
