Job summary

RLI Insurance Company is seeking a Surety Underwriting Assistant to support underwriting teams, process bond documents, and assist brokers and agents with specialty programs.

The role requires 4+ years in a similar position, an associate degree preferred, and strong team collaboration with the ability to multi-task and communicate effectively across channels.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree preferred; must have high school education or equivalent.
• More than 4 years of experience in a similar position; experience in Surety, Insurance or Financial Services preferred.
• Ability to interact professionally in a high-performance team environment; communicate effectively across mediums.
• Ability to work independently, develop and maintain procedures, and multi-task.

Responsibilities

• Provide support for national underwriting teams and assist with duties in the underwriting process.
• Support sales regions with marketing and sales efforts.
• Assist key agents and brokers with specialty programs and broker of record updates.
• Create and issue new and renewal bond documents; update systems of record.
• Assist with bond term transactions such as endorsements, riders, cancels, and related changes.
• Research and help resolve billing discrepancies.
• Assist with underwriting file maintenance and audit support.
• Identify improvements to key systems and workflows within the Surety Department.
• Limited lines of authority may be granted to assist with underwriting of new and renewal accounts.

Position Purpose

As a Surety Underwriting assistant, you will be working with the team in order to support underwriter needs, business processing, and service goals for our producer partners. Day to day activities will generally include working directly with your underwriting team to support their premium production goals, providing support to our agent and broker partners, and working with your team to support both business processing and specialty program needs.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide support for your national underwriting teams, assisting with duties in and around the underwriting process.
• Provide support for your sales regions, assisting with marketing and sales efforts.
• Provide support for your key agents and brokers, assisting with specialty programs and generally ensuring that we are “the easiest” market with which to conduct business.
• Create and issue new and renewal bond documents, ensuring systems of record are properly updated.
• Assist the broker, the bondholder and the obligee with bond term transactions, such as bond endorsements, riders, cancels, broker of record updates, etc.
• Research and help resolve billing and account current discrepancies.
• Assist with underwriting (electronic) file maintenance and underwriting audit support needs.
• Assist the Surety Department by identifying and implementing improvements to our key systems and workflows.
• Limited lines of authority may be granted to assist with the underwriting of new and renewal accounts.

Education & Experience

Associate's degree preferred. Must have completion of a high school education or its equivalent and more than 4 years of experience in a similar position. Experience in Surety, Insurance or Financial Services preferred.

Compensation Overview

The base salary range for the position is listed below. Please note that the base salary is only one component of our robust total rewards package at RLI. The salary offered will take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications/credentials, talent availability & specialization, as well as business needs. The below range may be modified in the future.

Base Pay Range

$21.69 - $29.82
