Job summary

Auto-Owners Insurance is seeking a motivated underwriting trainee to join our team. This role includes training and development through completion of the company’s underwriter training program for the assigned line of insurance and requires the person to learn coverages, read and interpret documents, and develop decisions with sound judgment.

The position starts with in-person training and offers merit-based work-from-home flexibility as defined by leadership, supporting a balance between office

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in property/casualty underwriting.
• Ability to organize data and multi-task independently.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Willingness to develop product knowledge through training.

Responsibilities

• Learn various insurance coverages and contracts to make underwriting decisions.
• Read, interpret, and react to documents such as policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements.
• Assemble information, develop opinions, and clearly express decisions using sound reasoning.
• Analyze loss experience, financial conditions and physical characteristics of risks.
• Acquire working knowledge of supporting sections of the underwriting department.
• Communicate with independent agents and associates verbally and/or in writing.
• Participate in and complete the underwriter training program.
