Job Description

Summary

Responsible for reviewing and analyzing underwriting data to build and maintain a profitable book of primary liability business under direct supervision within the Small Business Construction department. Continues training and educational activities to enhance underwriting knowledge. Manages agency relationships through customer service and marketing activities. Collaborates with colleagues to meet departmental goals. This position is 100% remote, with a strong preference for candidates in the Houston area due to broker marketing needs.

Minimum Duties & Responsibilities

1. Work with manager/mentor to meet profitability, retention, and premium goals.
2. Develop skills for independent underwriting decisions and proper file documentation.
3. Operate within assigned authority levels.
4. Gain knowledge of department products and services.
5. Work closely with mentors to develop analytical and strategic decision-making skills.
6. Participate in training and initiatives to expand knowledge base.
7. Contribute to projects as assigned.
8. Build and foster agency relationships through marketing activities.
9. Manage assigned territory, agents, and accounts.
10. Travel less than 20% as required.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Recommended Education & Skill Requirements

1. Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of commercial underwriting experience or equivalent training.
2. Insurance industry designations such as AINS, CPCU, CRIS are a plus.
3. Strong communication and analytical skills for new business pursuit and renewal management.
4. Proficiency in relevant software tools.
5. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
