Job Summary: Reviews and analyzes applications, inspections, and endorsements to determine policy eligibility through adherence to underwriting rules and guidelines. Accepts or rejects applications and makes risk selection on behalf of the carrier client within underwriting rules and guidelines. Develops and maintains strong agent relationships and acts as subject matter expert by providing guidance on policy form and coverage to external agent(s) and internal team members by performing the following duties.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Reviews applications for all personal lines coverage to determine if application is acceptable for the program(s) available. Assists agents with contents of applications and the likelihood of acceptance by the company and underwrites applications from appointed agents
· Analyzes and researches underwriting issues as they relate to new business eligibility, inspections, complex premium bearing endorsements, and cancellations with accuracy and efficiency.
· Reviews requests for cancellation, reinstatements and endorsements within established departmental service compliance standards as needed to support overall department and client needs.
· Communicates with producers/agents, carrier clients and leadership regarding underwriting decisions with the ability to effectively articulate decision and opinion withing underwriting rules and guidelines.
· Prioritizes and manages workflow to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate process of transactions while adhering to the standard operating procedures.
· Handles incoming calls and/or chats from producers and insureds in order to provide support as needed. Ensures customer service standards are met, bringing calls to a satisfactory resolution.
· Utilizes knowledge of automated systems to provide recommendations on improvements and enhancement that align with department and client goals.
· Maintains and develops strong agent relationships.
· Provides training on underwriting guidelines, contract and policy forms to agents and team members
· Communicates effectively with individuals/teams and reports any problems to supervisor.
· Identifies process changes to improve quality or efficiencies.
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
· An active 2-20 or 4-40 license or industry designation such as CPCU or CIC is preferred
Education and/or Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university preferred.
· Three (3) to five (5) years of underwriting experience in Personal Lines including homeowners and other lines; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
· Must have general knowledge of insurance statutes, regulations and policies.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
