We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our Employee Benefits team. The Underwriter will be responsible for risk assessment and decision-making on new business opportunities, collaborating closely with the Distribution team to drive sales and maintain existing business, aligned with the company’s financial goals. The role also involves working with other departments and vendor partners on underwriting issues and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess risks and make decisions on new business opportunities.
  • Partner with the Distribution team to sell new and existing business, ensuring financial objectives are met.
  • Collaborate with other departments and vendor partners on underwriting issues and best practices.
  • Utilize Equitable’s quoting platform and rating tools to develop manual and experience rates.
  • Meet key KPIs, including pricing, sales, persistency, and time-to-process performance.

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $75,000, with actual compensation based on experience, skills, and location. Additional performance-based incentives, bonuses, and benefits are offered, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid time off. Required Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years of Group Employee Benefits Underwriting experience.
  • Experience with Life, STD, LTD, Dental, Vision, Accident, Critical Illness, or Hospital Indemnity products.
  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong customer service skills and negotiation ability.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn.
  • Business knowledge and a solid work ethic.
Skills:
  • Communicating Complex Concepts: Ability to present and explain technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Group Insurance: Knowledge of group insurance products, processes, and market segments.
  • Legal and Regulatory Environment: Understanding of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Effective self-management and prioritization skills.
  • Risk Analysis and Selection: Proficiency in analyzing risks and determining coverage.
