Job summary

The Jonus Group is seeking an experienced Underwriter in the United States for independent risk evaluation, exposure analysis, and pricing development on Property & Casualty and Workers’ Compensation accounts. This role supports renewals, new business, and underwriting strategy, partnering with internal teams to deliver accurate, timely service.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent related insurance experience.
  • 3–7 years of underwriting, insurance, risk analysis, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with commercial Property & Casualty, Workers’ Compensation, or public entity insurance preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate new business and renewal submissions, including exposure data, loss experience, coverage needs, and overall risk characteristics.
  • Analyze property schedules, payroll and classification information, vehicle and transportation exposures, liability considerations, and other relevant risk factors.
  • Develop and document underwriting recommendations related to coverage, terms, pricing, deductibles, endorsements, and overall account strategy.
  • Prepare underwriting files, proposals, quotes, renewal documentation, and supporting analysis with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Review loss trends and risk indicators to identify potential concerns and opportunities for risk improvement.
  • Partner with risk control, claims, sales, and other internal departments to support account strategy and client needs.
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders and external clients to gather information, explain underwriting considerations, and respond to coverage or account-related questions.
  • Apply underwriting guidelines, policies, procedures, and applicable requirements consistently while exercising sound judgment on accounts requiring additional review.
  • Support portfolio monitoring, data tracking, reporting, and analysis to identify trends and strengthen underwriting decision-making.
  • Contribute to process improvements, special projects, and cross-functional initiatives designed to improve underwriting quality, operational efficiency, and client service.
  • Serve as a resource to less experienced team members by sharing knowledge, assisting with peer review, and demonstrating strong underwriting documentation and service practices.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related insurance experience.
  • 3–7 years of experience in underwriting, insurance, risk analysis, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with commercial Property & Casualty, Workers’ Compensation, or public entity insurance preferred.
  • Working knowledge of underwriting principles, insurance coverages, exposure analysis, loss experience review, and rating or pricing concepts.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to continue developing technical underwriting knowledge and expertise.
