Job summary

The Jonus Group is seeking an experienced Property & Casualty Underwriter to join a team in the United States. You will qualify and price new and renewal submissions under delegated underwriting authority, and service accounts following established guidelines and pricing directives.

You may supervise Underwriting Assistants and must analyze data, negotiate effectively, and communicate with producers and clients to maintain quality service across assigned regions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in insurance, business, or a related field preferred.
  • Progress toward AU, CPCU, ARM, or comparable higher insurance education is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Qualify and price new and renewal submissions, exercising discretion and independent judgment to accept, reject, or modify proposals.
  • Request additional information as needed and communicate decisions to producers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with producers, serving as the primary point of contact for assigned regions.
  • Analyze underwriting information such as applications, MVRs, loss notifications, inspections, financial reports, and audits.
  • Participate in large account reviews and prepare underwriting approaches for complex accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting authority, program forms, endorsements, and rating methodologies.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation, adhering to quality control and state filing requirements.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to Underwriting Assistants, including performance evaluations and workload management.
  • Support sales efforts by attending agent meetings, conventions, and trade shows as needed.
  • Evaluate and compare competitor forms and coverages to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

Job Summary

Seeking a skilled and experienced Property & Casualty Underwriter to join a team. In this role, you will work within a specific delegated underwriting authority to independently qualify and price new and renewal business in alignment with program underwriting guidelines and pricing directives. You will also be responsible for servicing accounts in accordance with established service standards. This position may involve supervising Underwriting Assistants and requires a strong ability to analyze, negotiate, and communicate effectively.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in insurance, business, or a related field preferred. Progress toward AU, CPCU, ARM, or comparable higher insurance education is highly desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years as a Property & Casualty Underwriter or 3 years in the insurance industry as an underwriting assistant, CSR, or agent/agency manager.
  • Licensing: Must hold or obtain a current property-casualty license for the state of residence within three months of hire, along with any additional required licenses.
  • Skills:
    • Proven performance as an underwriter or in agency management.
    • Strong knowledge of commercial insurance.
    • Analytical and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and maintain high-quality work.
    • Effective negotiation, oral, and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and handle stressful situations.
    • Proficiency in IT tools and software applications.
    • Detail-oriented with strong research skills.
