Job summary

SOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. in San Diego, CA, is seeking a Sand Blaster for the Preservation Department. The role involves sand blasting on underwater hulls and tanks, with painting duties and adherence to safety protocols in a shipyard environment. Travel may be required.

The ideal candidate has experience in blasting, painting, and surface prep, with strong safety awareness and ability to work long shifts as needed. Must pass medical and security checks.

Qualifications

• Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines.
• Attentive to detail and alert to safety.
• Able to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to safely operate various vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Remove dirt, paint, grease, and other build-up material from surfaces.
• Set up and operate a blast booth or similar equipment.
• Load and unload the blast equipment.
• Operate and maintain blasting equipment and ensure safety and efficiency.
• Assist with painting or coating as needed.
• Apply and remove non-skid materials as needed.
• Use PPE, including respirators.
• Follow safety, quality, environmental policies, and OSHA shipbuilding regulations.
