Job summary

Georgia Department of Transportation is seeking personnel for the Underwater Bridge Inspection Team responsible for divers conducting inspections of bridges and culverts statewide. The role involves field data collection, documentation of maintenance activities, and responding to emergencies in a 4‑day workweek with 10 hours per day.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, a valid Georgia driver’s license, and a diving certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and one year of experience at the lower level Transportation Tech 1 (TRT050) or equivalent.
• Diving certification required; medical clearance within 30 days of employment.
• Possession of a valid Georgia driver’s license and basic computer skills.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic in standard and metric units.
• Ability to recall bridge deficiencies verbally and document them in writing.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the bridge inventory and underwater inspection operations statewide.
• Perform field inspections to gather structural, geographic, and geometric data.
• Prepare and maintain records of bridge maintenance activities.
• Respond to requests for technical bridge maintenance assistance.
• Assist in data collection for the bridge management system.
