Job summary

Aspire Communications seeks an Underground Utility Locator in Orlando to identify and mark buried utility lines ahead of excavation and construction work. You will respond to locate tickets, use EM/GPR tools, and mark locations per APWA color codes, ensuring safety and accuracy on site.

The role requires reading maps, working outdoors, and collaborating with excavators and property owners. A valid driver's license and willingness to obtain further certification are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Experience in utility locating, construction, surveying, or damage prevention preferred.
• Ability to read maps/blueprints and use handheld GPS/tablet devices.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Physical ability to walk long distances, bend, kneel, and work outdoors in all weather.
• NULCA or state locator certification a plus (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

• Respond to and complete utility locate tickets (e.g., 811/One-Call requests) within required timeframes.
• Use electromagnetic (EM) locating equipment and/or ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to detect and trace underground utility lines.
• Accurately mark utility locations using industry-standard paint colors and flags (per APWA color code).
• Interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data to verify findings.
• Document completed locates with photos, GPS coordinates, and detailed notes.
• Communicate with excavators, contractors, and property owners on-site.
• Identify and report discrepancies between utility records and field conditions.
• Maintain and calibrate locating equipment.
• Follow all safety protocols, including traffic control and PPE requirements.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, often independently.

About the Role
We're looking for a detail-oriented Underground Utility Locator to identify and mark the location of buried utility lines — including gas, electric, water, sewer, and telecommunications — ahead of excavation, construction, and maintenance projects. This role plays a critical part in public safety and damage prevention, ensuring crews and the public are protected from utility strikes.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to and complete utility locate tickets (e.g., 811/One-Call requests) within required timeframes

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with EM locating equipment (Ridgid, Vivax-Metrotech, Radiodetection, etc.)
• Experience with GPR equipment
• Basic understanding of utility infrastructure (gas, electric, telecom, water/sewer)

Salary: $18.00-$24.00/hr
