Job Description

Position Title: Utility Construction Laborer

Reports To: Foreman/Project Manager

Department: Field

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Location: Whitmore Lake, MI

Job Summary: We are looking for utility construction laborers to join our team! As a utility construction laborer, you will assist the foreman and team with installing and replacing underground utilities.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Perform manual labor tasks such as digging trenches, backfilling, building and cleaning manholes, replacing concrete, installing and removing pipes, cleaning pipes, setting poles, installing and splicing conduit and cable, and demolition.
  • Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities.
  • Follow safety and incident reporting procedures.
  • Drive vehicles to job sites, manage traffic control, and flagging.
  • Use hand tools to dig near existing underground utilities.
  • Assist the line-up crew and welders.
  • Support repair, maintenance, and construction of gas pipelines.
  • Travel to different job sites as required.
Requirements
  • Valid Driver’s License; CDL preferred (additional $1.00/hour with CDL).
  • Satisfactory driving record.
  • Pass pre-employment and random drug screens per company and DOT regulations.
  • Pass background screening.
  • Team player with a dedicated and goal-oriented attitude.
  • Willing to work overtime, weekends, and in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, squat, and stand for long periods.
Compensation

Based on union scale rates.
