Underground Utilities Construction Inspector

Job Requirements
  • Construction inspectors experienced in underground utilities, specifically fiber optic/conduit/directional drilling, for long-term East and West-based construction management.
  • Construction inspectors with ACI, MAG certifications to oversee high-speed internet micro-trench and directional drilling projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
  • Experience reviewing plans and specifications for compliance with MAG and City standards.
  • Proficiency with MAG and City standards for pavement and concrete structure inspections.
  • Experience conducting inspections of pothole, trench, and pavement restoration.
  • Ability to inspect micro trenching and horizontal directional drilling (bore profiles).
  • Scheduling materials testing according to specified frequencies.
  • Preparing and issuing correction notices and stop work orders.
  • Conducting final inspections and identifying punch list items.
  • Addressing internal and external customer needs responsively.
  • Investigating citizen complaints and determining corrective actions.
  • Tracking inspection hours using permit numbers and contractor information.
  • Monitoring inspections, bore clearances, hard restoration, and material testing based on construction plans.
  • Managing the City's Project Phasing and Sequencing policy, ensuring contractors segment Utility permits into 2500-foot segments.
  • Maintaining accurate records and reports, including date, location, weather, test results, equipment, and detailed activities.
  • Keeping relevant pictures and summarizing inspections in DIMES under the UTL permit number.
  • Providing weekly summaries to the Right of Way Manager covering conduit and fiber optic installation progress, restoration, resident complaints, and infrastructure damage.
  • Utilizing permit software for daily logs, field changes, permit closeout, and documentation uploads.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, utility maps, and related drawings to ensure compliance.
  • Reviewing and approving utility plans per MAG and City standards.
  • Calculating fees, inspecting work sites for quality and standards compliance.
  • Inspecting sub-bases, asphalt, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks for quality and conformance.
  • Interacting with contractors to ensure work meets standards.
  • Analyzing construction problems, proposing solutions, and maintaining quality standards.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED, with three years of civil inspection experience, and ACI certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field, and/or NICET certification, Asphalt Certifications (ATTI, APWA), or ASU Horizontal Directional Drilling Academy Certification.
