Qualifications

Job description

Underground Utilities Construction Inspector

Job Requirements

Construction inspectors experienced in Underground utilities, specifically fiber optic, conduit, and directional drilling, for long-term East and West-based construction management. Experience with ACI, MAG standards to oversee high-speed internet micro-trench and directional drilling projects is required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
  • Reviewing plans and specifications for compliance with MAG and City standards.
  • Facilitating pre-construction meetings.
  • Proficiency with MAG and City standards for pavement and concrete structure inspections.
  • Conducting inspections of pothole, trench, and pavement restoration.
  • Inspecting micro trenching and horizontal directional drilling (bore profiles).
  • Scheduling materials testing as per outlined frequency.
  • Preparing and issuing correction notices and stop work orders.
  • Conducting final inspections and creating punch lists.
  • Responding to internal and external customer needs.
  • Investigating citizen complaints and determining corrective actions.
  • Tracking inspection hours using permit numbers and contractor info.
  • Monitoring inspections, bore clearances, restoration, and material testing based on plans.
  • Managing the City's Project Phasing and Sequencing policy, ensuring contractors segment utility permits into 2500-foot segments.
  • Maintaining detailed records and reports, including weather, test results, equipment, and activities.
  • Documenting inspections with pictures and summaries in DIMES under the UTL permit.
  • Providing weekly summaries to the Right of Way Manager on conduit and fiber optic installation progress, restoration, complaints, and damages.
  • Utilizing permit software for daily logs, field changes, permit closeouts, and documentation uploads.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, utility maps, and related documents to ensure compliance.
  • Reviewing and approving utility plans, calculating fees, and inspecting work sites for quality and standards adherence.
  • Inspecting sub-bases, asphalt paving, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks for conformance.
  • Interacting with contractors to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Analyzing construction issues, proposing solutions, and selecting optimal options while maintaining quality standards.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED, with at least three years of civil inspection experience, and ACI certification.

Preferred/Desirable Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field, and/or NICET, Asphalt Certifications (ATTI), APWA Public Infrastructure Certification, or ASU Horizontal Directional Drilling Certification.
