Job summary

Rio Tinto Kennecott is seeking an Underground Shift Coordinator to support safe construction, commissioning, and operation of the Kennecott Underground Mine near Salt Lake City, Utah. You report to the Underground Operations Superintendent and work on a 5/5/4 rotating shift roster, coordinating across construction, operations, and contractor teams.

Qualifications

• Commitment to safety of yourself and your team.
• Strong problem-solving skills in dynamic operating environments.
• Confidence using Microsoft Office applications and other digital systems.
• Experience leading teams in an operational or supervisory capacity.
• Exposure to underground development, stope mining, and/or underground construction activities.
• Experience working in underground mining environments.
• Ability to adapt in changing conditions.
• Experience with SAP or similar operational systems.

Responsibilities

• Champion Rio Tinto Kennecott’s safety standards and promote a culture where everyone goes home safe.
• Ensure permits are in place and understood before work begins.
• Conduct daily inspections to support quality, safety, and compliance.
• Coordinate underground work activities across construction, operations, and contractor teams.
• Integrate daily plans between surface and underground operations for safe and efficient execution.
• Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities as projects progress.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, project documentation, and work records.
• Collaborate with team members and contractor partners to coordinate activities and share knowledge.
