Job summary

Peyton Resource Group is seeking an experienced Underground Operator I to support underground telecommunications construction projects in the Janesville, Wisconsin area. The role will operate heavy equipment used for trenching, directional boring, excavation, conduit installation, and underground utility construction.

You will read and follow construction plans, perform inspections, maintain safety, travel to project sites, and work outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• CDL required.
• Hands-on experience operating underground construction equipment.
• Ability to read construction prints and understand utility markings.
• Strong safety awareness and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Operate directional bore machines, mini excavators, backhoes, trenchers, and other underground construction equipment.
• Perform excavation, trenching, boring, and conduit installation.
• Assist with placing conduit, handholes, vaults, pedestals, and fiber infrastructure.
• Read and follow construction plans, site drawings, utility locates, and markings.
• Maintain awareness of existing underground utilities and follow safe excavation practices.
• Complete daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Underground Operator I to support underground telecommunications construction projects in the Janesville, WI area. This position will operate heavy equipment used for trenching, directional boring, excavation, conduit installation, and underground utility construction.

Pay: $20-$30/hr, based on experience

What You’ll Do

• Operate directional bore machines, mini excavators, backhoes, trenchers, and other underground construction equipment
• Perform excavation, trenching, boring, and conduit installation
• Assist with placing conduit, handholes, vaults, pedestals, and fiber infrastructure
• Read and follow construction plans, site drawings, utility locates, and markings
• Maintain awareness of existing underground utilities and follow safe excavation practices
• Complete daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance
• Follow OSHA and company safety requirements
• Communicate with crew members, supervisors, and project managers
• Complete required job documentation
• Travel to various project sites as needed
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding work

Requirements

• Valid CDL required
• Prior hands-on experience operating underground construction equipment
• Experience with directional boring/HDD, excavation, trenching, backhoes, mini excavators, or trenchers
• Ability to read construction prints and understand utility markings
• Underground utility or telecommunications construction experience preferred
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs
• Strong safety awareness and attention to detail
• Basic mechanical knowledge of construction equipment
• Ability to travel to various job sites
• Full-time, field-based position
• Overtime, weekends, and travel may be required
