Job summary

Primoris Services Corporation is seeking an Underground Operator to safely operate excavators, backhoes, trenchers, and dozers for underground utility projects. You will read blueprints, follow plans, and coordinate with supervisors to ensure quality and safety on site.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, 1–3 years of equipment experience, and a valid driver's license (CDL preferred). Must live near Austin, TX, and pass drug screening and physical exams.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CDL preferred or Class A/B CDL is preferred.
• Must live near Austin, TX area.
• 1–3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in underground utility construction.
• Proven ability to operate excavators, backhoes, and trenchers safely and proficiently.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred.
• Knowledge of underground utility construction practices and procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
• Strong understanding of trenching and excavation safety regulations.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in varying weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs and perform strenuous labor.
• Pre-employment drug screen and physical required.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment (excavators, backhoes, trenchers, dozers) for underground utility installation, maintenance, and repair.
• Dig trenches, excavate foundations, and prepare sites per plans.
• Backfill excavations, compact soil, and grade surfaces to required elevations.
• Load and unload materials and equipment from trucks.
• Perform pre- and post-operation inspections and report malfunctions or safety concerns.
• Conduct routine equipment maintenance (lubrication, fueling, cleaning).
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction plans to ensure accurate work.
• Communicate with supervisors and crew to coordinate tasks.
• Follow all safety policies and wear PPE.
• Maintain organized work area.
• Assist with other construction tasks as needed.
