Job summary

Bunker Hill Mining Company in Kellogg, Idaho is seeking an Underground Mine Mechanic to support safe, reliable, and efficient underground operations. You will inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair underground mobile equipment and fixed plant systems to maximize equipment availability.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, 3–5 years of mining maintenance experience, underground mining exposure preferred, MSHA Part 48 certification preferred, and a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair underground mining equipment including LHDs, haul trucks, drills, bolters, and support vehicles.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and site programs.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, diesel engine, drivetrain, and pneumatic systems.
  • Maintain and repair underground infrastructure including ventilation fans, pumps, compressors, and related systems.
  • Complete work orders, maintenance reports, and equipment documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

Job description

Position Overview

Bunker Hill Mine is seeking a skilled Underground Mine Mechanic to support safe, reliable, and efficient underground mining operations in Kellogg, Idaho. This position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing underground mobile equipment and fixed plant systems. The successful candidate will play a critical role in maximizing equipment availability, minimizing operational downtime, and ensuring compliance with MSHA, environmental, and site safety requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair underground mining equipment including LHDs, haul trucks, drills, bolters, and support vehicles.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and site programs.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, diesel engine, drivetrain, and pneumatic systems.
  • Maintain and repair underground infrastructure including ventilation fans, pumps, compressors, and related systems.
  • Complete work orders, maintenance reports, and equipment documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Conduct pre-shift inspections and identify mechanical or safety concerns before equipment is placed into service.
  • Coordinate with operations personnel to prioritize repairs and reduce production interruptions.
  • Follow MSHA regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, and company safety standards at all times.
  • Assist with equipment rebuilds, component replacement projects, and field modifications.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in underground and shop settings.
Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of industrial, heavy equipment, mining, or related maintenance experience.
  • Underground mining experience preferred, particularly in hard rock operations.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving hydraulic, electrical, diesel engine, drivetrain, and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and equipment documentation.
  • Working knowledge of MSHA requirements and safe maintenance practices.
  • Experience welding, fabrication, or mechanical rebuilding activities is beneficial.
  • MSHA Part 48 certification is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work underground in confined spaces, low-light, wet, dusty, and changing environmental conditions.
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally move heavier components with assistance or mechanical aids.
  • Perform prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working on or around mobile equipment.
  • Manual dexterity to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to wear all required PPE, including respirators, self-rescuers, and other site-required protective equipment.
