Job summary

Kinross Gold Corporation's Curlew mine seeks a Mine Electrician to install, maintain, test, and repair HV distribution and 480/120V systems in an underground operation. You will inspect transformers, substations, switchgear, and mobile underground equipment, ensuring reliability and safety in line with Kinross SafeGround and regulatory codes.

Collaboration with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams is vital to run outages and upgrades safely.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Electrical trade qualification and HV Switching Operator certification preferred.
• Current electrical license (Grade A or equivalent) preferred.
• 5+ years experience in underground mining operations involving HV systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Plan, install, commission, and upgrade HV distribution infrastructure at the Curlew mine site.
• Inspect, maintain, test, and repair HV equipment including transformers, substations, switchgear, and power lines.
• Test and maintain 480V and 120V systems on the underground mobile fleet (jumbos, bolters, drills).
• Maintain mine communications network and assist with fiber optic networks.
• Perform switching, LO/TO, grounding, and energization per KRO, MSHA, NFPA 70E and NEC standards.
• Diagnose faults with diagnostic tools and repair HV distribution systems.
• Conduct thermography, insulation resistance, contact resistance testing, and relay checks.
• Ensure readiness of HV components and stock for rapid response to outages.
• Collaborate with electrical, maintenance, operations and engineering during outages and upgrades.
• Document all activities in CMMS for traceability and compliance.
• Mentor junior electricians on safe HV practices and energy efficiency initiatives.
