Duties include inspecting and repairing bolters, scoops, jumbos, and hydraulic drills, diagnosing issues with computerized tools, and maintaining detailed service records. Safety, testing, and quality are emphasized.

Qualifications

  • Be proficient in English, both verbal and written.
  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Provide a clean 5-year driver’s abstract.
  • Pass a Criminal Record check and an 8-panel drug test (marijuana included).
  • Have experience with mining equipment and underground machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair underground mining equipment (bolters, scoops, jumbos, hydraulic drills).
  • Repair drivetrains, transmissions, and hydraulic systems; replace components as needed.
  • Use diagnostic tools and maintain service reports.
  • Complete work orders promptly while following safety protocols.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and test equipment after repair.

Location: Southeast, Ontario
Base Rate: $ 62.50/hr.
OT: 4 hours daily, paid out at $93.75/hr.
Schedule: 14X14 - 12-hour days
Night Shift Premium: $1.25/hr.
Accommodations: Company housing is provided at no additional cost
Flights Paid: Yes, fly into the location from any major airport in Canada
Tools Provided: Tools will be provided
Travel Time: Paid to and from the site daily and at each end of your set

Big Country Equipment is hiring an experienced licensed Underground Heavy Duty Mechanic (Equipment Technician) to perform shop repairs on underground mining equipment. This is a rotational shop-based opportunity working a 14-days-on, 14-days-off schedule. Licensed Truck and Transport Mechanics and Agricultural Equipment Technicians may also be considered with strong, relevant experience repairing heavy or off-road equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair underground mining equipment, including bolters, scoops, jumbos, hydraulic drills, and other heavy machinery.
  • Perform repairs on drivetrains, transmissions, and hydraulic systems, including replacing components and gears as needed.
  • Utilize computerized diagnostic tools and testing equipment to identify issues and maintain detailed service reports.
  • Complete scheduled and unscheduled work orders promptly while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and ensure the reliability of underground equipment in challenging environments.
  • Test repaired equipment to verify functionality and recommend improvements to optimize performance and reliability.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent experience working as a heavy-duty mechanic, preferably in underground mining or resource industries.
  • Familiarity with underground equipment, such as bolters, scoops, jumbos, and hydraulic drills, is required.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience working with Maclean Bolters, as these will be the primary equipment you will be working on.
  • Experience with key equipment brands such as Sandvik, Liebherr, Epiroc, CAT, and Komatsu is an asset.
  • Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certification is preferred.
  • Truck and Transport Mechanics or Agricultural Equipment Technicians will be considered; must have experience with mining equipment.
  • Red Seal certification is preferred but is not required for candidates who hold a valid provincial trade certification recognized in the province where they will work.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Commitment to working safely in confined spaces and underground conditions.
All Successful Candidates Must:
  • Be proficient in English, both verbal and written.
  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Provide a clean 5-year driver’s abstract.
  • Provide a minimum of 2 direct supervisor references.
  • Pass a Criminal Record check.
  • Be proficient in English, both verbal and written.
  • Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test.
  • Not seeking subcontractor roles (we are not offering subcontractor opportunities at this time).
