They are currently adding an Underground Mobile Mechanic to their Mobile Maintenance team. Reporting to the Shift Coordinator, Underground Mobile Maintenance, this position will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, servicing, and maintaining a diverse fleet of underground mobile mining equipment.
The successful candidate will work directly with underground production and maintenance teams to maximize equipment availability, complete preventative and corrective maintenance, and ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
Equipment will include underground drills, bolters, haul trucks, graders, dozers, tractors, light vehicles, and other heavy mobile mining equipment.
What you will achieve in this role:
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain underground mobile mining equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance, equipment lubrication, inspections, and field repairs as required
- Work across a diverse underground equipment fleet including drills, bolters, haul trucks, graders, dozers, tractors, and light vehicles
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, diesel, hydraulic, and related heavy equipment systems
- Complete tire changes on rubber-tired mobile equipment throughout the operation
- Test completed equipment repairs to ensure equipment is operating safely and effectively before returning it to service
- Assist with welding, fabrication, and equipment modification work as required
- Perform welding and fabrication tasks independently when directed by the supervisor
- Identify equipment issues that could impact safety, reliability, or production and communicate concerns to the maintenance team
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment logs, and repair documentation
- Complete required data entry associated with maintenance activity, inventory, and cost-control tracking
- Maintain accountability for company tools, personal tools, equipment, and materials used during maintenance activities
- Maintain clean and organized work areas and support strong housekeeping standards throughout maintenance facilities and underground work areas
- Work collaboratively with mechanics, operators, supervisors, and other members of the underground operations team
- Participate in equipment inspections, risk assessments, safety initiatives, and continuous improvement activities
- Identify and report workplace hazards, equipment concerns, incidents, and unsafe conditions
- Ensure equipment is operated and maintained within established safe working limits
- Follow all company safety, environmental, attendance, and operating procedures
- Comply with applicable state regulations, MSHA requirements, and site-specific safety standards
- Support improvements to maintenance practices, equipment reliability, safety, and overall underground production performance
What you must bring to this role:
- High school diploma, trade school education, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 4+ years of heavy equipment maintenance experience
- Strong hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy mobile equipment
- Experience working with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, mechanical systems, and heavy equipment components
- Previous mining experience is strongly preferred
- Underground mining experience is considered a strong asset
- Experience maintaining underground drills, bolters, haul trucks, graders, dozers, tractors, or similar heavy mobile equipment is preferred
- Strong preventative maintenance and equipment troubleshooting capabilities
- Welding and fabrication experience is considered an asset
- Ability to perform welding and fabrication independently when required
- Ability to read equipment information, identify mechanical problems, and determine appropriate repair solutions
- Ability to complete maintenance documentation, reports, and basic computer-based data entry
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of an underground maintenance team
- Demonstrated reliability, initiative, productivity, cooperation, and commitment to safe work practices
- Ability and willingness to comply with company policies, site procedures, MSHA requirements, and applicable regulations
- Ability to work in an underground mining environment and around heavy mobile equipment
- Flexibility to work varying schedules, including occasional nights or weekends when operational requirements demand
Physical Requirements:
This is a physically demanding, hands-on maintenance position within an underground mining environment.
Successful candidates must be capable of performing the physical requirements of the position, which may include:
- Lifting up to 100 lbs from floor to waist
- Lifting up to 75 lbs from floor to shoulder height
- Lifting up to 50 lbs overhead
- Carrying up to 100 lbs for short distances
- Performing pushing and pulling activities requiring significant physical force
- Climbing stairs and ladders throughout underground and maintenance environments
- Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and squatting for extended periods
- Working in confined or restricted areas while completing equipment inspections and repairs
- Maintaining the visual awareness required to safely operate around mobile equipment, machinery, underground traffic, and mine infrastructure
- Communicating clearly with supervisors and team members both in person and over radio systems
A job-related physical abilities assessment may be required as part of the hiring process.
- Underground mining environment with regular exposure to heavy mobile equipment and active production areas
- Exposure to varying temperatures, including extreme heat and cold
- Potential exposure to wet or humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, and loud noise
- Work around moving mechanical equipment, electrical systems, chemicals, explosives, and other hazards associated with underground mining operations
- Appropriate personal protective equipment and hearing protection must be worn as required
- Work may occasionally be required during nights, weekends, or outside regular scheduled hours based on operational requirements
