Title of Position

Title of Position Undergraduate Student Research Assistant

Reporting to the Director, Center for Ethics Education and the Program Administrator, Center for Ethics Education, this student will collaborate with Fordham staff, public organizations, and community organizers on a community-engaged research project within Fordham’s Bronx Research Institute for Community Solutions ( BRICS ), titled, “Shared Spaces, Shared Solutions: Using Community Narratives and Data to Reduce Survival-Based Drug Use and Homelessness and Create Shared Enjoyment.” The project combines community-based research with data analysis to better understand causes and patterns of public drug use in and around East Tremont’s Echo Park in the Bronx, NY. The student will support qualitative research activities, stakeholder engagement, data collection and analysis, community Share Back events, and the development of policy recommendations.

Essential Functions

Meets weekly with the supervisor and project team members to discuss project progress and plan activities.

Conducts interviews with stakeholders involved in making Echo Park a safe place, including unhoused and marginalized persons, neighborhood residents, and park service providers

Assists in transcribing interviews; assists in summarizing and analyzing interview findings

Collects data regarding the community and relevant social, environmental, and policy issues.

Assists with park Share Back events.

Helps develop interview instruments for stakeholder interviews

Assists in developing policy papers based on project finding,

Receives relevant research and community trainings.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience

Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at Fordham University majoring in psychology or related field.

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills

Demonstrates interest in research areas including community-engaged research, ethics, social justice, marginalized identities, public policy, urban studies, or a related field.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to engage respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Ability to listen actively and conduct interviews with sensitivity and professionalism; strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

Ability to summarize qualitative information clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience with research, interviewing, community engagement, or related project work.
