Job summary

The University of South Carolina is seeking an Undergraduate Academic Advisor to provide individualized advising to approximately 300 students, helping with the transition to college, academic planning and engagement on campus. Advisors understand curriculum, policies, and campus resources and meet regularly with students, their College, and the University Advising Center.

The role requires managing a ~30-hour weekly advising schedule, maintaining caseloads, and participating in ongoing training

Qualifications

• Experience with undergraduate advising practices and student services.
• Thorough knowledge of University Policy and Procedures.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• High level of organizational and coordination skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise independent judgement.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized advising to approximately 300 students (first‑year, transfer, continuing caseload) to support transition to college and academic planning.
• Maintain an average advising schedule of ~30 hours per week and manage student caseloads.
• Participate in ongoing training and certification; host outreach events; intervene with students as needed.
• Regularly use available technologies to ensure accurate and effective advising.
