Job summary

University of South Carolina seeks an Undergraduate Academic Advisor to provide individualized advising to about 300 students, guiding college transition, academic planning and campus involvement. The role requires maintaining a 30-hour advising week, managing caseloads, and ongoing training.

Qualifications

  • The position requires knowledge of undergraduate advising practices and student service, plus experience with technology.
  • Ability to possess thorough knowledge of University Policy and Procedures and functions.
  • Excellent verbal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills, with ability to adapt under deadlines and changing schedules.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise independent initiative and judgement.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual advising to approximately 300 assigned students (first-year, transfer, continuing caseload) to aid in transitioning to college, academic planning and campus engagement.
  • Maintain an average advising schedule of 30 hours per week, manage student caseloads, and participate in training and certification.
  • Host outreach events, intervene with students and utilize technologies to ensure accurate and effective advising.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree and one year advising experience.
