Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) seeks an undergraduate student to join the PT-3 Assembly and Welding Group, supporting the research, development, and manufacturing of plutonium-related components in a nuclear facility. Join Pit Technologies (PT-3) Assembly and Welding Group, where we support the research, development, and manufacturing of nuclear pits in direct support of national security. PT-3 operations include the assembly and welding of weapons-related and non-weapons-related products containing Plutonium-239, as well as support for sub-critical experiments, science campaigns, and Department of Homeland Security and global security missions.
As an Undergraduate Student for the PT-3 Assembly and Welding team, you will work in a team-based nuclear manufacturing environment supporting LANL's plutonium facility (PF-4). The majority of work is supporting engineers who are experts in precision assembly, welding, robotics, product testing, and/or material handling activities. This position will develop knowledge and experience using Conduct of Operations, nuclear criticality safety, material control and accountability, radiological safety, and environment/waste compliance requirements. Work directly relates to national security objectives, requiring the individual to protect and maintain sensitive or classified information.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
