Job summary

The City of Grand Prairie's Grand Prairie Public Library is seeking a creative, energetic, and highly organized Undergraduate Intern of Programs to join our lively Programming team. This internship offers hands-on support for library programs, events, and community outreach under the Administrator of Programs & Promotions.

You'll help with setup, decorations, supplies, and direct involvement in programming and outreach across the Grand Prairie system, developing skills in event planning,

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor's degree.
  • Available to work flexible hours including weekdays, evenings and weekends.
  • Experience with children, families, teens, or the public preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A hands-on, can-do attitude and willingness to jump in wherever needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing and facilitating library programs for children, teens, adults, and families.
  • Prepare crafts, activities, materials, and supplies for upcoming programs.
  • Gather, organize, transport, and return program supplies as needed.
  • Help decorate library spaces for special events, holidays, and large-scale programs.

The Grand Prairie Public Library is seeking a creative, energetic, and highly organized Undergraduate Intern of Programs to join our lively Programming team. This position is perfect for a college student who enjoys working with people, being creative, serving their community, and helping bring exciting programs and events to life.

Reporting directly to the Administrator of Programs & Promotions, the intern will provide hands‑on support for library programs, special events, and community outreach throughout the Grand Prairie Public Library System. This is an active, behind‑the‑scenes and in‑the‑action role where every day can look a little different!

Essential Job Functions
What You'll Do

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED and currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Benefits

For city employees who are regular part time (10-19 hours per week) or seasonal hired placed on City payroll, the following benefits are provided:

  • PARS - Public Agency Retirement System: the employee contributes 6.2% each paycheck to this retirement system and the city provides 1.3%. The employee does not pay into Social Security. All of the employees contributions may be withdrawn upon separating service from the city. The City's contributions will not be paid unless the employee retires under the system.
  • Part time or seasonal employees are not eligible for any paid leave or other benefits.
  • Part time or seasonal employees are limited to working only 1,000 hours per 12-month period, unless the seasonal is project based for a specific period of time which is typically less than 12-months.
