Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas on foot, bicycle, or vehicle to enforce parking laws.

• Monitor restricted zones, loading areas, fire lanes, and permit spots.
• Respond to parking complaints and service requests from residents and businesses.
• Provide information regarding parking regulations and enforcement procedures.
• Document violations and enforcement activities using handheld devices and systems.
• Report abandoned vehicles, hazards, and damaged signs to the appropriate dept.
• Assist with traffic and crowd control during events and road closures.
• Maintain professional interactions with the public and resolve inquiries.
• Prepare reports and maintain records of enforcement actions.
• Coordinate with law enforcement and city departments as needed.

Position Summary

The City is seeking professional, dependable, and community-focused Parking Enforcement Officers to enforce parking regulations, promote public safety, and support traffic flow throughout the City of Los Angeles. Parking Enforcement Officers serve as ambassadors to the community while ensuring compliance with municipal parking ordinances and helping maintain safe, accessible roadways and public spaces.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas on foot, bicycle, or vehicle to enforce parking laws and regulations.
• Issue citations for parking violations in accordance with municipal codes and departmental procedures.
• Monitor restricted parking zones, loading areas, fire lanes, bus stops, disabled parking spaces, and permit-only locations.
• Respond to parking complaints and service requests from residents, businesses, and visitors.
• Provide information regarding parking regulations, permits, and enforcement procedures.
• Document violations, incidents, and enforcement activities using handheld electronic devices and reporting systems.
• Report abandoned vehicles, traffic hazards, damaged signs, and other public safety concerns.
• Assist with traffic and crowd management during special events, emergencies, and road closures.
• Maintain professional interactions with the public while resolving conflicts and responding to inquiries.
• Prepare accurate reports and maintain detailed records of enforcement activities.
• Coordinate with law enforcement, transportation personnel, and city departments as necessary.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid California Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Ability to pass a background investigation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic computer and mobile technology proficiency.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently.

Preferred

• Experience in parking enforcement, code enforcement, security, public safety, customer service, or related fields.
• Knowledge of municipal parking regulations and traffic laws.
• Bilingual communication skills are highly desirable.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods throughout an entire shift.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Frequent walking, bending, climbing stairs, and entering/exiting patrol vehicles.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds when necessary.
• Ability to patrol large geographic areas while maintaining alertness and professionalism.
