Summary

Under the supervision of radiologists and the Manager of Special Imaging, following established procedures, performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries. Uses ultrasound equipment based on sonography principles to produce images indicating tissue size and depth. Promotes patient and family-centered care aligned with Brown University Health and The Miriam Hospital's mission, considering all developmental and cultural aspects.

Responsibilities

1. Adhere to hospital and department policies, maintaining patient confidentiality.
2. Operate ultrasound equipment efficiently and maintain aseptic conditions during invasive procedures.
3. Review clinical data to identify contraindications for procedures.
4. Observe and reassure patients during procedures.
5. Perform various ultrasound exams (e.g., abdominal, renal, thyroid, dopplers, breast sonography, biopsies, fluid collections, thoracentesis, paracentesis).
6. Review patient history and clinical data to optimize diagnostic outcomes.
7. Position and instruct patients for procedures.
8. Conduct scanning procedures and record data for interpretation.
9. Assist physicians with procedures, confirming ROI location and marking as needed.
10. Manage imaging data and send to PACS.
11. Review daily schedules, order supplies, and ensure equipment functionality.
12. Instruct and guide ultrasound students.
13. Participate in ongoing professional development.

Other Information

Knowledge and Experience: ARDMS certification required; 1+ year ultrasound experience preferred; experience in healthcare settings with patient contact; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; adherence to safety protocols.
