Summary
Assigns coordinates and monitors the daily activities in assigned Ultrasound Imaging section to ensure standards of patient care are met. Performs all duties of a sonographer serving as a clinical resource to all sonographers assigned to this area. Provides Sonography services to patients of all ages including: infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.

- Participates in department and interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
- Maintains Current CPR Certification.
- Assigns coordinates and monitors the daily activities in assigned Ultrasound Imaging section to ensure standards of patient care are met.
- Serves as clinical resource to sonographers assigned to work area.
- Assists with development of ultrasound imaging protocols.
- Assists with performance and documentation of weekly Quality Assurance program.
- Assists with orientation and training of new staff members.
- Performs ultrasound services to patients of all ages.
- Practices aseptic techniques and infection control procedures.
- Conducts visual checks of equipment prior to each use to ensure safe condition.
- Introduces self to patient, confirms patient’s name, date of birth, and exam to be done. Checks order in POM or request form.
- Explains Procedure To The Patient (to adult and child with adult present).
- Performs routine abdominal, gallbladder, renal, aorta, and spleen exams (adults, adolescents, children).
- Provides Technical Assistance To Surgeons/radiologists for various biopsies and procedures.
- Performs routine pelvic ultrasounds and obstetrical studies, including transvaginal and translabial approaches.
- Assists with amniocentesis for single and/or multiple gestation.
- Performs Small Part Studies (Breast, Thyroid, Testicle).
- Operates Ultrasound Equipment with Doppler and Vascular Capabilities.
- Performs various vascular studies (Venous, Vein mappings, Doppler studies, Carotid, etc.).
- Performs Foley Catheterization using sterile technique on various patients.
- Provides radiologists with preliminary interpretation and reviews cases.
- Sets up room and equipment appropriately, monitors patient’s condition, and utilizes imaging and troubleshooting equipment.
- Performs departmental quality checks, maintains equipment, and manages office functions including RIS and scheduling.
- Minimum qualifications include high school graduation or equivalent, completion of allied health training, two years of ultrasound experience, ARDMS registration (or within 6 months for new graduates), current CPR, and physical ability to perform job duties.
