Job Summary and Qualifications

The Ultrasound Technologist (sonographer) performs diagnostic procedures utilizing a background in anatomy, physiology, physics, and instrumentation to provide technical information to aid the physician. The sonographer will maintain technical skills needed to perform ultrasound procedures to include abdominal, OB/GYN, venous Doppler, small parts, pediatrics (where applicable), and invasive exams.

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:

  1. Education: ONE of the following:
    1. Successful completion of training program in either: Ultrasonography, Radiologic Technology, Vascular Technology
    2. Associates of Science or higher degree
  2. Experience: none required
  3. Preferred: Two (2) years experience as a fulltime ultrasound technologist in a hospital or diagnostic imaging clinic setting preferred.
  4. Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required: Must have and maintain ONE of the following:
    1. American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) - RDMS- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ABD or OBGYN)
    2. American Registry of Radiologic Technologist ARRT (S)
    3. American Registry of Radiologic Technologist ARRT (VS)

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Maintains skills and understanding of innovation in techniques and equipment in medical sonography.
  2. Assists physicians in performing ultrasound-guided biopsies and other invasive procedures.
  3. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  4. Responsible for the proper use of the Radiology Computer System.
  5. Follows safety policies and procedures applicable to the job.
  6. Understands and follows infection control/universal precautions.
