Position Overview

The Ultrasound Technologist operates ultrasound equipment, performs a variety of technical procedures, and is responsible for patient care in their designated area. This role requires population-specific competencies and adherence to National Patient Safety Goals, as appropriate.

Qualifications
  • Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (must obtain ARRT Sonography certification within 90 days of hire).
  • The ability to obtain RDMS, RDCS, or RVT certification within 12 months of hire through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • For Diagnostic Cardiology: CCI registry accepted.
  • For Breast Imaging Centers: ARRT Breast Sonography certification for mammography techs performing breast sonography.
  • Successful completion of an allied health post-secondary program or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Current CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Effective communication skills in English (written and verbal).
Responsibilities

The Ultrasound Technologist's duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing general ultrasound procedures, including 2D, pulsed wave Doppler, and color flow Doppler evaluations.
  • Reviewing requisitions and prioritizing patient procedures based on severity and requests.
  • Developing films promptly and manipulating imaging equipment to ensure high quality.
  • Conducting daily quality control checks and managing supplies and sterilization processes.
  • Performing specialized procedures such as echocardiography and peripheral vascular assessments, as applicable.
  • Ensuring proper sterilization and documentation of instruments, especially in Lakeside Women's Hospital.
  • Performing breast ultrasound procedures, reviewing prior imaging, and assisting with interventional procedures.
Additional Details

The Technologist reports to the Lead Ultrasound Technologist and/or Manager/Director. The role involves physical demands and safety considerations, including exposure to equipment, chemicals, and biological hazards. Work may include irregular hours, overtime, and working in darkened rooms up to 60% of the time.
