Position Overview

Performs a full range of diagnostic ultrasound imaging/therapeutic services and patient care to support the Radiology Department's mission of providing diagnostic information for patient treatment at WVU Hospital.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Completion of a C.A.H.E.P. or comparable accredited training program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Completion of a C.A.H.E.P. accredited training in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, ARRT certification in Radiology, registration by ARDMS or ARRT with certification in one specialty (AB, OB/Gyn, PS, RVT), and AB (Abdomen) certification within 1 year of hire.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

The following are general responsibilities; other duties may be assigned:

  1. Plan and perform imaging procedures to produce sonographic images for diagnosis or treatment, adhering to departmental standards.
  2. Maintain professional and technical competencies as required by the organization and licensing bodies.
  3. Review physician requests for procedures; clarify questions with the sonologist or physician as needed.
  4. Produce high-quality images.
  5. Maintain confidentiality of Protected Health Information.
  6. Assess and support patient comfort, hygiene, and mobility needs.
  7. Educate patients about sonographic procedures and answer questions.
  8. Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team.
  9. Engage in problem solving, crisis management, and systems implementation to promote high-quality patient care.
  10. Perform as a clinical instructor, evaluating and documenting student performance.
  11. Maintain professional development in sonography techniques.
  12. Participate in training and apply new skills to improve performance.
  13. Adhere to ethical standards, policies, and regulations.
  14. Report equipment failures immediately.
  15. Perform High Level Disinfection of ultrasound equipment per policy.
Physical Requirements
  • Differentiate shades of gray on monitors.
  • Stand and walk for 6-7 hours daily.
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Push portable ultrasound machines as needed.
Working Environment

Clinical setting with accommodations for disabilities.

Additional Job Details

Day shift primarily 9:30 am - 6 pm, with rotations including nights, weekends, and holidays.
