Qualifications

  • Current BLS certification and adherence to safety practices.

Responsibilities

Role Description

The Ultrasound Technologist is a full‑time, on‑site role based at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA. This role is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including general, obstetric, and vascular studies, in accordance with physician orders and established protocols. Day‑to‑day tasks include preparing and positioning patients, operating ultrasound equipment, assessing image quality, and collaborating with radiologists and other providers to support accurate diagnoses. The Ultrasound Technologist documents findings in the electronic medical record, maintains equipment and exam rooms, follows safety and infection control standards, and provides clear, compassionate communication to patients and families. The role also participates in continuing education, quality improvement initiatives, and may assist with training new team members or students.

Qualifications
  • Certification and registration through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), with relevant specialties such as abdominal, obstetric/gynecologic, or vascular.
  • Eligibility for or certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Sonography, or comparable credentials in radiologic imaging.
  • Foundational knowledge of medicine and radiology, including anatomy, physiology, and pathology relevant to ultrasound exams.
  • Experience performing vascular ultrasound studies, such as carotid, venous, and arterial evaluations.
  • Completion of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program; associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and adherence to patient safety and infection control practices.
  • Strong technical proficiency with ultrasound equipment, image optimization, and electronic health record documentation.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team and provide respectful, inclusive patient care.
