The Ultrasound Technician will operate imaging equipment, document results in the EMR, and collaborate with radiologists and clinicians

Qualifications

• Completion of basic training in ultrasound and graduation from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
• 3–5 years of clinical training or experience in diagnostic ultrasound (student hours acceptable for entry-level roles).
• Current certification in ARDMS or ARRT (or equivalent licensure).

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures as ordered by a physician, following established protocols and standards of practice.
• Acquire and evaluate ultrasound images for technical quality and completeness.
• Document procedures, patient information, and results in the EMR.
• Communicate findings to radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff.
• Assist with scheduling, workflow coordination, and patient throughput as needed.

Location: RKV Medical Center Pay Range: $23.85 - $41.96

Position Summary

The Ultrasound Technician is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations using specialized imaging equipment to produce high-quality images for physician interpretation. This role requires formal education in diagnostic medical sonography, certification by a recognized accrediting body, and the ability to provide safe, accurate, and compassionate patient care in accordance with established clinical protocols and regulatory standards.

Key Performance Areas

• KPA 1: Diagnostic Imaging & Clinical Care Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures as ordered by a physician, following established protocols and standards of practice. Prepare patients for procedures by explaining exams, positioning patients appropriately, and ensuring patient comfort and safety. Acquire and evaluate ultrasound images for technical quality and completeness. Recognize normal and abnormal anatomy and communicate findings that require immediate attention per protocol. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational privacy requirements.


• KPA 2: Equipment Operation & Safety Operate, adjust, and maintain ultrasound imaging equipment to ensure optimal performance. Perform routine quality control checks and report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns. Follow infection prevention, radiation safety (as applicable), and workplace safety guidelines.


• KPA 3: Documentation & Communication Accurately document procedures, patient information, and exam results in the electronic medical record (EMR). Communicate effectively with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff regarding exam requirements and patient conditions. Assist with scheduling, workflow coordination, and patient throughput as needed.


• KPA 4: Compliance & Professional Practice Adhere to professional standards, accreditation requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Maintain required licensure, certifications, and continuing education. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental meetings as assigned.


• KPA 5: Diagnostic Imaging & Clinical Care Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures as ordered by a physician, following established protocols and standards of practice. Position Qualifications

• Education Completion of basic training in ultrasound, and Graduation from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.


• Minimum Relevant Experience 3–5-years clinical training or experience performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures (student clinical hours acceptable for entry-level roles).


• Certifications/Licenses Current certification in at least one of the following: ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)
