Job Details
Under the direction of a radiologist or physician, the Ultrasound Technologist utilizes diagnostic ultrasound equipment to perform general examinations to produce ultrasound images of the body for diagnostic purposes and interventional procedures. The technologist exercises good judgment in determining necessary measurements for the area being examined, performs all computer processing for ultrasound examinations, and delivers patient care and education before, during, and after diagnostic imaging procedures. May act as a mentor for less experienced ultrasound technologists. The technologist interacts with co-workers, visitors, and staff in accordance with Jefferson's values.
Responsibilities include performing sonographic examinations on patients, properly positioning patients, locating and scanning areas for interpretation by the physician or radiologist. Instructs patients regarding procedures to ensure cooperation and optimal test results. Assembles pertinent patient information and images, delivers these to the radiologist/physician for interpretation following established procedures. Ensures staff and patient safety by adhering to prescribed safety standards when operating equipment. Utilizes and optimizes all software applications including PACS, and maintains and updates patient records for billing and RIS/PACS accuracy. Maintains ultrasound and lab equipment and examination rooms in proper operating condition. Performs related duties such as quality assurance/control as directed by the lead technologist, supervisor, or manager. Other duties as assigned.
