Job summary

UC San Diego seeks an Ultrasound Supervisor to lead licensed technologists in diagnostic imaging and patient care. The role ensures regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and efficient ultrasound operations across shifts.

You will train and mentor staff, collaborate with radiology leaders on performance improvement, participate in recruitment, and guide department procedures to deliver top-quality services.

Qualifications

• Nine years of related experience, education/training; OR a Bachelor's Degree in business, healthcare administration or related area plus five (5+) or more years of relevant experience/training.
• Licensed sonographer, ARDMS or ARRT.
• Experience with subject matter knowledge of sonography, with ability to apply principles to an acute care setting to ensure operations meet regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Supervises licensed technologists providing diagnostic and patient care services.
• Monitors staff utilization and productivity; reviews test results for proper equipment usage and imaging quality.
• Oversees ultrasound operations to meet productivity, quality standards, internal policies and external regulations.
• Trains diagnostic medical sonographers on new techniques and regulations; mentors staff for growth.
• Consults with radiology leaders on performance improvement strategies; coordinates staff development and competency assessment.
• Participates in recruiting and conducts new employee orientation; evaluates performance and defines development goals.
