Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks a motivated postdoctoral appointee for Ultrafast Chemical Dynamics in Livermore, CA. The role focuses on coupled electronic and structural dynamics, using time-resolved methods and in-house HHG-based x-ray sources to study ultrafast processes in complex molecules.

You will work with theorists and experimentalists, develop expertise in ultrafast lasers, nonlinear optics, XUV spectroscopy, and vacuum systems, and contribute to user facilities and publications

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, or related field.
• Significant experience with femtosecond amplified laser systems, nonlinear optics, and instrumentation.
• Strong background in ultrafast spectroscopy and excited-state dynamics.
• Experience with high-harmonic generation of XUV/soft X-ray pulses.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong publication record.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate high-power femtosecond lasers and design, build, and optimize optical and vacuum systems.
• Perform ultrafast core-level spectroscopy using HHG-based XUV/soft X-ray pulses.
• Acquire, analyze, and interpret time-resolved data in collaboration with theorists and experimenters.
• Contribute to user proposals and participate in experiments at ultrafast facilities.
• Document research findings in peer-reviewed publications and present at conferences.
• Publish and communicate results in scientific journals and forums.
