Job summary

The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia seeks a ULAR Technician, Animal Laboratory/Technician, Veterinary Senior to perform veterinary technician duties and independently manage clinical care for mice and rats in the ULAR vivarium. You will triage, review records, administer medications, and assist with euthanasia, under veterinary supervision.

Responsibilities include collaborating with veterinary staff, maintaining health records, inventory, and documentation of treatments.

Qualifications

• Vet Tech credential and/or experience in veterinary technician roles.
• AALAS certification at Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level preferred or plan to attain it.
• Experience with animals in research or clinical settings preferred.
• Ability to respond to changing circumstances with flexibility and innovation.
• Ability to lift 25-50 pounds and perform walking activities.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word.

• Operate sterilization equipment and prepare surgical equipment packs. Prepare bills for treatments/medications used to provide veterinary clinical care.

Qualifications

Vet Tech

• 0-1 years of related experience, or 3-5 years in ULAR husbandry.
• Experience working with animals in a research or clinical setting is preferred. AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level preferred, or a demonstrated commitment to attaining that certification within the time frame established by AALAS.
• Ability to respond to changing circumstances by being innovative and altering behavior to better fit different situations.
• Ability to lift 25-50 pounds, with fair amount of walking.
• Computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word programs.

• Associate of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
