Operating Systems Inc. (OSI) is building a modern engineering software platform that supports the marine, offshore, and structural engineering industries. This UI/UX Designer role centers on turning design intent into production‑ready React frontends, with strong emphasis on Figma and design system thinking.
Working in a hybrid setup in Spring, TX 77389 on a contract basis, you will move quickly from business requirements to high‑fidelity prototypes, help stakeholders review the work, and connect Figma components and tokens to a scalable React component library.
Role focus
- Figma to production React: bridge design to production React/TypeScript frontends.
- Design systems approach: think in reusable components, variants, and tokens rather than one‑off screens.
- Technical UI orientation: support complex, data‑dense interfaces aligned with engineering workflows.
Responsibilities
- Operate as a UI/UX Designer who is deeply proficient in Figma and experienced in bridging design to production React frontends.
- Translate business requirements quickly into high‑fidelity prototypes.
- Apply design system thinking to interfaces, not isolated layouts.
- Understand how engineers work in 3D CAD and simulation environments.
- Deliver high‑fidelity clickable prototypes for stakeholder review.
- Present design rationale using tools such as FigJam, Miro, or PowerPoint.
Requirements
- Expert‑level Figma proficiency, including component libraries, auto layout, variables, interactive prototyping, design tokens, and branching/versioning workflows.
- Figma design system management, including building and maintaining scalable design systems with variants, nested components, and token‑based theming that maps cleanly to React component libraries.
- Figma‑to‑React pipeline experience, including hands‑on use of code generation and handoff tooling such as Locofy, Anima, Builder.io, or Figma Dev Mode to produce production‑quality React/TypeScript output. Ability to structure Figma files so generated code stays clean and maintainable.
- Figma AI features experience, such as AI‑powered asset search, rename layers, visual suggestions, first drafts, plus third‑party AI plugins to accelerate design workflows.
- Strong UI/UX fundamentals, including information architecture, interaction design, user flows, wireframing, usability testing, and accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA).
- Front‑end design literacy, including working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and React component architecture. Ability to inspect and red‑line designs for developers. Familiarity with CSS‑in‑JS, Tailwind, or styled‑components is a plus.
- Data‑dense and technical UI experience designing complex interfaces such as dashboards, data tables, tree views, property panels, and multi‑step workflows.
- Rapid business‑requirements translation from engineers and product managers into clear interaction models and visual designs.
- Prototyping and stakeholder communication through high‑fidelity clickable prototypes and clear rationale, using tools such as FigJam, Miro, or PowerPoint.

Highly desirable skills
- Engineering/CAD/3D domain experience, including software used in engineering design, structural modeling, CAD/CAM/CAE, simulation, or technical/scientific applications.
- Marine or offshore engineering software familiarity, including shipbuilding, classification, or structural engineering workflows and terminology.
- Design system component library synchronization, such as keeping a Figma system in sync with a live React component library (for example via Storybook integration and token pipelines with Style Dictionary or Tokens Studio).
- Responsive and adaptive layout design, including experience across desktop, web, and potentially embedded/offline deployments.
- Motion and micro‑interaction design to specify meaningful transitions and usability improvements in complex workflows.
- Modern design/dev collaboration tools such as Storybook, Chromatic, Zeplin, or similar.
Experience and fit
- 3+ years of professional UI/UX design experience, with at least 2 years focused primarily on Figma.
- Portfolio demonstrating complex, data‑rich application design (not only websites or mobile consumer apps).
- Demonstrated experience delivering designs that were implemented in React‑based front‑end applications.
